CM Revanth Reddy Unveils Rs.10,000 Crore Development Plan To Transform Kodangal
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has announced plans to transform Kodangal into a major industrial, investment and education hub under the government's Rural Agriculture Region Economy (RARE) initiative, with a focus on creating employment opportunities for local youth.
Speaking at a mega farmers' meet and industrial exhibition at Hakimpet in Vikarabad district, he said industrial development would be extended beyond Hyderabad to ensure that young people could find jobs in their own regions.
The proposed 943.34-acre Kodangal Industrial Hub will receive Rs.220 crore for land acquisition and Rs.441.91 crore for infrastructure, including roads, water and electricity. Land has been allotted to BirlaNu Limited and Ecopalm Oil and Fats Private Limited for projects involving Rs.252.86 crore in investment, expected to generate around 535 jobs.
Revanth Reddy announced plans for an industrial corridor from Hyderabad to Lagacharla, along the lines of the Delhi-Noida and Mumbai-Pune corridors. A 250-foot-wide road is being constructed between Hyderabad airport and Kodangal. The government is also taking up development works worth Rs.10,000 crore. The RARE education hub will include medical, engineering, nursing, veterinary and law colleges, a Young India Integrated School and a Sainik School.
He said work on the Makthal-Narayanpet-Kodangal lift irrigation project was progressing, with farmers receiving Rs.20 lakh per acre as compensation for acquired land.
Warning of challenging weather conditions due to El Nino over the next eight months, the Chief Minister advised farmers to avoid water-intensive crops and carefully assess conditions before sowing. He said rainfall could remain scarce until July 2027 and assured farmers of government support.
He also announced two to three days of special Assembly discussions in December on El Nino, Kaleshwaram and Godavari and Krishna water utilisation. Defending the government's irrigation approach, he cited damage to the Medigadda barrage and rejected allegations of diverting Godavari water to Andhra Pradesh.
Criticising delays in projects including Kalwakurthy, Bhima, Nettampadu, Koilsagar and Palamuru-Rangareddy, he promised to address Palamuru's longstanding irrigation problems. He also recalled the Pranahita-Chevella project launched under former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
Separately, representatives of the Madiga Employees Coordination Committee, led by Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar, thanked the Chief Minister for implementing SC categorisation in government employee promotions.
