CM Revanth Reddy Seeks Centre's Nod for Mega Highway, Airport Projects

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday urged the Centre to fast-track approvals for a slew of strategic highway and airport projects , saying improved transport infrastructure is critical to accelerating industrial growth, boosting logistics, attracting investments and strengthening regional connectivity across the state. During his visit to New Delhi, the Chief Minister held separate meetings with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu , seeking timely clearances for several flagship infrastructure initiatives.

Meeting Nitin Gadkari , Revanth Reddy requested Union Cabinet approval to begin work on the Northern Regional Ring Road (RRR) , stating that 95% of the land acquisition has already been completed. He also sought immediate approval for the Southern RRR , arguing that simultaneous construction of both stretches would reduce costs and ensure faster completion. The nearly 340-km Regional Ring Road , designed to encircle Hyderabad beyond the existing Outer Ring Road , is expected to decongest traffic, improve inter-district connectivity and spur the growth of industrial, logistics and urban hubs around the city.

The Chief Minister also pressed for approval of the Hyderabad-Amaravati Greenfield Highway , proposed under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act , along with a 12-lane access-controlled corridor connecting Bharat Future City to Machilipatnam Port via Amaravati . According to the state government, the project would shorten the Hyderabad-Vijayawada route by nearly 100 kilometres , while enhancing cargo movement and trade with the east coast.

Revanth Reddy further sought forest clearances for the proposed Mannanur-Srisailam Elevated Corridor through the Nallamala Tiger Reserve , besides requesting approval for a new six-lane alternative highway between Hyderabad and Mancherial to ease traffic on the existing Rajiv Rahadari . He assured the Centre that the state would complete the required land acquisition.

In a separate meeting with Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu , the Chief Minister requested that the proposed Warangal and Adilabad airports be developed to international standards . Highlighting Warangal's growing industrial significance with projects such as the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park and Kazipet Coach Factory , he sought Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities, cargo terminals , aircraft hangars and aviation training institutes at both airports.

He also urged the Centre to invite tenders immediately, noting that land acquisition for Warangal Airport has been completed and requesting its inauguration by June 2, 2028 . Revanth Reddy proposed incorporating Kakatiya architectural elements into the airport's design and suggested developing a civil enclave alongside the defence airfield at Adilabad . He further proposed exploring seaplane services between Hyderabad's Hussain Sagar and Vijayawada's Prakasam Barrage to promote tourism.

Praising Telangana's swift land acquisition efforts, Ram Mohan Naidu said the state had set a benchmark in airport project execution. Addressing the media later, Revanth Reddy asserted that development must rise above politics , emphasizing that governments should work together to deliver infrastructure that drives long-term economic growth and employment.
