CM Revanth Reddy Lacks Foresight, Failed to Prepare for Crisis: BRS Leader Krishank
BRS leader Manne Krishank has accused the Congress government in Telangana of failing to anticipate and address mounting challenges in the agriculture sector, including power cuts and water shortages. He alleged that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy lacked foresight and had failed to develop a concrete action plan despite early warnings about resource constraints.
Speaking to the media in Hyderabad on Sunday, Krishank criticised the government for asking farmers to avoid cultivation because of water scarcity while simultaneously imposing extensive power cuts. He alleged that instead of addressing farmers' concerns, the Chief Minister was focusing on criticising former Chief Minister and BRS president K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) to divert public attention from the government's failures.
Krishank said scientists had been warning about potential water shortages for agriculture since April, but the Congress government had failed to take timely preventive measures. He also questioned the administration's preparedness to ensure an adequate power supply for farming, describing the absence of a contingency plan as evidence of poor governance.
Recalling the previous BRS government's record, Krishank said KCR had closely monitored agricultural activities and ensured that farming continued even during the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns. Telangana had also supplied food grains to other states during that period, he said, contrasting the earlier government's approach with what he described as the current administration's failure to reassure farmers.
Meanwhile, Revanth Reddy recently warned that the El Niño phenomenon could trigger prolonged drought conditions in Telangana. He called for public participation in managing the potential crisis and announced plans to establish a dedicated administrative mechanism to coordinate the response and prevent the spread of misinformation.
Separately, BRS MLAs have urged the government to take immediate steps to pump water from the Kannepalli pump house to address Hyderabad's drinking water shortage. They warned that if the government failed to respond, they would stage a protest outside the Chief Minister's residence alongside residents of Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts.
