CM Revanth Reddy Heads To Delhi To Push Telangana’s Pending Demands

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will travel to New Delhi on Saturday to meet senior Union government leaders, with funding, approvals and clearances for several key State projects expected to figure prominently in the discussions.

The visit will be his 78th trip to Delhi since becoming Chief Minister. His frequent visits to the national capital have triggered political debate in Telangana, with Opposition parties questioning the benefits emerging from his meetings with the Centre and the Congress high command. Revanth Reddy has maintained that the visits are aimed at securing the funds, permissions and clearances required for the State’s development.

Responding to criticism in March 2025, the Chief Minister had said he would go to Delhi not 39 times but 99 times if required. His 56th visit in November last year had included official engagements as well as discussions concerning Congress organisational appointments and Cabinet expansion.

A government review in January 2026 found that 47 proposals from 12 departments were pending with the Centre for approvals or financial assistance. These included the Regional Ring Road (RRR), Hyderabad Metro Phase-2, the Hyderabad-Bandar Port Greenfield Highway, railway projects and national highway expansion.

Hyderabad Metro Phase-2 is among the State’s major demands. Telangana has proposed 122.9 km of additional metro lines, with an estimated cost of Rs 38,595 crore, and is seeking Central approval.

The State is also seeking national project status for the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme. However, the Centre said in August that the proposal was not under consideration at present, citing unresolved inter-State issues over Krishna river water sharing.

Airport development at Adilabad and Mamunoor is another priority. On September 2, Revanth Reddy met Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu and sought faster progress. The State has said land acquisition for Mamunoor airport has been completed.

Other pending demands include the RRR, Hyderabad-Bandar Port Highway, notification of the Hyderabad-Bengaluru Defence Industrial Corridor and an IIM for Hyderabad.

The BRS has criticised the Chief Minister’s frequent Delhi trips, with working president K.T. Rama Rao questioning the benefits and expenditure involved. Attention is now on whether the latest visit will result in progress on Telangana’s pending demands.
