The State government has extended support to the families of victims who lost their lives in a tragic bus accident near Madinah in Saudi Arabia . On Saturday, at the Dr B R Ambedkar State Secretariat , Chief Minister Revanth Reddy distributed compensation cheques to the bereaved families.

The bus accident, which occurred on November 17, 2025 , near Madinah, claimed the lives of 44 pilgrims from Hyderabad who were reportedly burnt alive. The Chief Minister announced that the families of the deceased have been granted ₹5 lakh each , while ₹3 lakh has been sanctioned to the family of one injured victim.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister stated that although there is generally no practice of State governments paying compensation in cases of deaths occurring abroad, the government decided to extend assistance on humanitarian grounds . He assured the affected families that the government belongs to the people and that there was no need for concern, promising continued support at all times.

He recalled that immediately after the accident, a delegation led by Minister Mohammed Azaruddin was sent to Madinah. The government facilitated the issuance of passports and visas to the families of the deceased and arranged for them to travel to Madinah. In coordination with the Indian Consulate and the Saudi government, steps were taken to conduct the last rites at the Jannatul Baqi burial ground .

The Chief Minister also mentioned that the government had provided compensation to the families of those who died in the recent fire accident in Nampally. Referring to his association with the Muslim community, he said that since being elected as Kodangal MLA in 2009 , he has been sponsoring five persons every year for the Haj pilgrimage at his own expense . The responsibility of selecting the beneficiaries, he added, has been entrusted to local Muslim religious leaders.

Government advisers, public representatives, and representatives of the Haj Committee and minority organisations were present at the programme.
