CM Revanth Reddy Calls US Visit Denial An Insult To Telangana

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has strongly condemned the Centre's decision to deny political clearance for his proposed US visit, saying the move was not an insult to him personally but to the four crore people of Telangana.

Speaking at the Dr BR Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat on Monday after returning from a three-day UK tour, Revanth Reddy said the proposed visit was aimed at attracting investments, strengthening international partnerships and advancing the state's development agenda.

The Chief Minister said the decision was against the spirit of federalism, arguing that political differences between the Centre and states should not obstruct development initiatives. He questioned why the Gujarat chief minister was allowed to visit the US and Canada for the Vibrant Gujarat initiative while Telangana's chief minister was denied clearance.

Revanth said the US visit was planned as part of the state's 'Telangana Rising 2047' vision, which seeks to build a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and a $3 trillion economy by 2047. The delegation was also expected to invite American companies and universities to participate in the 'Invest Telangana' summit scheduled in Hyderabad in December and hold discussions with potential investors.

He said the government was also seeking partnerships with leading global universities to expand quality education opportunities in Hyderabad and reduce the financial burden on students studying abroad. During his UK tour, he said, discussions were held with representatives of Oxford University, the University of London and London Business School, with agreements on some short-term courses expected soon.

Responding to reports about possible meetings with New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani and US Vice-President JD Vance, Revanth said engagements during an official chief ministerial visit would be finalised through diplomatic channels, with the Indian mission playing a key role.

He rejected allegations that his government had withheld details of the proposed US tour, saying the Centre had been provided with comprehensive information. Official foreign visits, he added, are monitored by Indian diplomatic missions, with reports shared with the Ministry of External Affairs.

Revanth demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi explain the reasons for denying clearance and accused the BJP of making politically motivated allegations. He said Telangana's progress would continue despite the Centre's decision.

The Chief Minister had left for London on August 20 and was scheduled to travel to the US from there. However, after the Ministry of External Affairs denied political clearance, he cancelled the US leg and returned to Hyderabad on Monday.

He said Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi would raise the issue in the forthcoming Parliament session.
