Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has urged southern states to strengthen coordination among their police forces and work collectively to make South India one of the safest regions in the country. He called for reducing crime rates and developing effective mechanisms to prevent criminal activities that cross state borders.

The Chief Minister inaugurated the Southern Regional Police Coordination Committee (SRPCC) conference at the Integrated Command Control Centre (ICCC) in Hyderabad on Friday. He said no state could achieve a crime-free environment through its own resources alone and offered to share Telangana’s technological infrastructure and ICCC facilities with neighbouring states.

Revanth Reddy said people expected an efficient, impartial and ethical police system capable of responding to changing security challenges. He described government spending on policing as an investment in public safety and social development. Cybercrime, drug trafficking and traffic management required continuous reforms, specialised units, advanced technology and improved personnel training, he added.

The Chief Minister said Hyderabad’s police administration had been divided into the Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri commissionerates to improve policing and address local challenges more effectively. The state had also established specialised units, including HYDRAA, EAGLE, TG-SAFE and TG TeamARS, to tackle different enforcement and public safety concerns.

He highlighted Telangana’s progress in combating cybercrime, drug trafficking and Left-Wing Extremism. The Prime Minister had acknowledged the state’s cybercrime prevention efforts during a PRAGATI review, while the Union Home Minister had appreciated the police’s role in making Telangana Naxal-free. The EAGLE unit had secured more than 80 per cent marks in a Central government assessment of its anti-drug efforts.

The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau had also improved efforts to recover money lost by cybercrime victims. TG-SAFE was established to tackle food adulteration and strengthen drug regulation, drawing inspiration from the US Food and Drug Administration model. HYDRAA works to protect and restore water bodies and safeguard public assets. Telangana also became the first state to appoint transgender persons as traffic assistants.

Revanth Reddy said the government prioritised the welfare of police personnel who risk their lives on duty. The Young India Police School in Hyderabad provides quality education for children of personnel, from home guards to DGP-level officers.

Families of police personnel who die in the line of duty receive ex gratia payments ranging from Rs 1 crore to Rs 2 crore, based on rank and service, along with house sites and compassionate employment for eligible family members.

Senior police officials from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry and Lakshadweep attended the conference to discuss stronger inter-state cooperation.
