CM Revanth condemns caste-based harassment after IPS officer’s death

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed deep sorrow over the suicide of senior IPS officer V. Puran Kumar in Haryana. Speaking on the incident, the CM condemned attacks carried out in the name of caste, calling the officer’s death a tragic example of such violence.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Revanth Reddy highlighted that if even an officer of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) rank can fall victim to caste-based harassment, it reflects the perilous situation faced by ordinary citizens. He warned that such distressing incidents fuel hatred in society and incites resentment against marginalized communities.

The Chief Minister stressed that these attacks undermine public trust in the constitution, equality, and justice. He called on everyone to strongly condemn assaults targeting marginalized groups.

Revanth Reddy emphasized that the incident is not just an attack on a single IPS officer, but a blow to the nation as a whole, urging authorities to treat it with the utmost seriousness. He also extended his condolences to Puran Kumar’s family.

V. Puran Kumar, 52, a 2001-batch IPS officer, reportedly shot himself at his residence in Sector 11, Chandigarh, on Tuesday. His final note mentioned that eight senior police officials had subjected him to caste-based discrimination, deliberate mental harassment, public humiliation, and extreme violence.
