CM Inspects Mir Alam Tank Works, Calls for World-Class Tourism Infrastructure

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has called for the transformation of the historic Mir Alam Tank into a major tourism and recreational destination, with plans to introduce water sports, develop its islands and create modern visitor attractions.

The Chief Minister made a surprise inspection of the ongoing development works at the lake and reviewed the proposed plans aimed at revitalising the water body and its surrounding areas. He examined a photo exhibition prepared by officials and received a detailed briefing on the progress of the project.

Revanth Reddy stressed the need for high-quality designs and attractive infrastructure that could draw more tourists. He also directed officials to ensure that the works are completed within the prescribed timeframe.

During the inspection, the Chief Minister travelled around the lake in an open-top jeep to personally assess the works underway. He also took a closer look at the construction of the suspension bridge across the tank, inspecting the project from an elevated position with the help of a heavy crane.

Highlighting environmental protection as a key priority, Revanth Reddy instructed officials to take effective measures to prevent sewage from entering the lake. He also called for the widening of the nala to allow floodwaters from Mir Alam Tank to flow smoothly into the Musi River.

The Chief Minister said the islands located within the lake should be developed into attractive destinations, while suitable facilities should be created for water-based recreational activities. Given Mir Alam Tank's location near the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, he said the lake and surrounding areas have the potential to emerge as a prominent attraction for visitors.

Officials are currently preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) covering the lake's rejuvenation and the development of nearby areas and islands. Senior officials from the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, and municipal departments accompanied the Chief Minister during the inspection.

Meanwhile, work on the proposed suspension bridge is continuing. As of August 27, piling work had reached 50.18% completion, with 273 of the planned 544 piles completed. Of the 62 pile caps, 28 have been completed, marking 45.16% progress, while six of the proposed 62 pier-cum-pier caps have also been completed.
