CM inaugurates Earth Sciences University named after Former PM Manmohan Singh

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy inaugurated the country’s first dedicated Earth Sciences University in Bhadradri Kothagudem today. The university, established as part of the state’s “Public Governance Celebration” initiatives, has been named after eminent economist and former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. It will henceforth be known as the Earth Sciences University of Telangana.

The inaugural event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, ministers Tummala Nageswara Rao, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Vakiti Srihari, and several other public representatives.

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Revanth highlighted that Kothagudem was the site where the foundation for the Telangana statehood movement was first laid over six decades ago. He said naming the university after Dr. Manmohan Singh was a tribute to the former Prime Minister’s vision and his role in guiding the country from crisis toward progress. “Dr. Singh will always be remembered in history as a farsighted economist who contributed significantly to India’s growth,” he added.

The Chief Minister also said that inspired by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s vision, the Telangana government continues to prioritize education and water resource development. Bhadradri-Kothagudem, rich in mineral resources and home to institutions like Singareni Collieries, offers extensive opportunities for research in earth sciences, making it an ideal location for the university.

Additionally, Revanth promised to complete long-pending irrigation projects in the erstwhile Khammam district, which will provide a boost to agriculture and development in the region. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to making Telangana a leading state in education, irrigation, and research.
