
CM Chandrababu Naidu Sets June Deadline for 100% Waste Processing Under Swachh Andhra
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to further strengthen the implementation of the ‘Swachh Andhra’ programme, aimed at transforming Andhra Pradesh into a clean state. He emphasised the need for systematic planning at the grassroots level and set a target to achieve 100 per cent waste collection and processing across the state by June this year . The Chief Minister conducted a high-level review meeting on the progress of ‘Swarna Andhra–Swachh Andhra’ at the camp office on Friday.
Officials presented district-wise rankings under Swachh Andhra. As per data up to March 31, Visakhapatnam district secured the top position with 92 per cent marks , followed by Vizianagaram and Guntur districts with 85 per cent each . Sri Sathya Sai, Parvathipuram Manyam, and Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) districts ranked at the bottom. The Chief Minister expressed dissatisfaction over poor performance in door-to-door waste collection, wet and dry waste segregation, and ODF Plus standards . He instructed that the ranking process be made more transparent through third-party surveys .
The Chief Minister laid special focus on clearing accumulated waste in urban areas. Officials informed that out of 153 lakh tonnes of waste , 114 lakh tonnes have already been removed over the past year. He directed that the remaining waste be cleared on a war footing and the dumping yards be transformed into green parks . He also suggested developing dumping sites located on the outskirts of towns and villages into green spaces , constructing public toilets where required , and promoting waste-to-energy plants .
The Chief Minister instructed officials to prepare a special action plan to clear nearly 10 lakh metric tonnes of waste in rural areas . He stressed strengthening the waste collection system to 100 per cent in villages . He suggested assigning the responsibility of selling compost to MARKFED , constructing community soak pits to improve groundwater levels, and ensuring regular cleaning of rural roads through ‘Swachh Patham’ vehicles .
As part of environmental protection, the Chief Minister announced plans to establish ‘Circular Economy Parks’ across 590 acres in 10 districts . He set targets to increase green cover to 37 per cent by 2030 and 50 per cent by 2047 . He also directed the implementation of solar rooftops and net-zero policies in government hostels and residential schools. Officials were instructed to complete Gobardhan plants by December and promote income generation through waste management .
Municipal Administration Minister Narayana, PCB Chairman Krishnaiah, Swachh Andhra Corporation Chairman Pattabhi, and other senior officials attended the review meeting.
