CM Chandrababu Naidu Reviews Repatriation and Relief Efforts After Vietnam Boat Tragedy

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday reviewed the relief and repatriation efforts underway for Indian tourists affected by the tragic speedboat accident in Vietnam, directing officials to ensure that all survivors return home safely at the earliest and that the families of the deceased receive every possible assistance.

During a high-level review meeting, the Chief Minister assessed the status of rescue, medical, and transportation arrangements being coordinated through various agencies. He instructed officials to maintain close coordination with the Indian Embassy in Vietnam and expedite all procedures related to the return of survivors and the transportation of victims' mortal remains to their hometowns.

The accident occurred on Saturday near Phu Quoc Island , where a tourist speedboat carrying 32 Indian tourists , along with crew members and an attendant, capsized. The tragedy claimed the lives of 15 Indian tourists , while 21 others survived . Authorities informed the Chief Minister that two survivors continue to remain in critical condition.

Officials also briefed Naidu on the condition of Gelle Kishore , one of the seriously injured passengers. Kishore is currently undergoing treatment in Vietnam and is reported to be responding positively to medical care. To facilitate advanced treatment, he has been shifted from Phu Quoc Island to Ho Chi Minh City . According to officials, support is being extended for his treatment, and his health condition is showing gradual improvement.

The review meeting was informed that the Indian Embassy in Vietnam has engaged a special agency to streamline the process of handing over and transporting the bodies of the deceased. Necessary formalities have already begun, and efforts are being made to ensure that the remains are returned to their families without delay.

The Chief Minister was also informed that arrangements have been completed for the return of Telugu tourists who survived the accident. The leisure trip had reportedly been sponsored for business associates by a leading mobile services company, which has now undertaken the responsibility of arranging air travel for all survivors.

As part of the repatriation plan, 15 Telugu tourists have already reached Phu Quoc Airport and are scheduled to travel to Hyderabad via Hanoi on a Vietnam Airlines flight . Officials said the remaining travel and logistical arrangements are being closely monitored to ensure a smooth return journey.

Naidu directed officials of Andhra Pradesh Bhavan to continue extending all necessary assistance until every survivor reaches India safely and the transportation of the victims’ bodies is completed. He also instructed them to facilitate travel arrangements for the family members of the injured tourist receiving treatment in Ho Chi Minh City.

Emphasising the need for continuous monitoring, the Chief Minister asked officials to remain in constant touch with diplomatic authorities and ensure that support reaches affected families without any interruption during this difficult period.
