CM Chandrababu directs full utilization of state reservoirs

In anticipation of the remaining month of rainfall, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, has issued directives to ensure that all tanks and reservoirs across the state are filled to capacity. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of utilizing the current period efficiently to secure water resources for the state.

To review preparedness and monitor water levels, a video conference was convened today with district collectors and senior officials of the Andhra Pradesh Water Resources Department. The meeting provided a comprehensive overview of reservoir capacities, ongoing maintenance, and water inflow projections for the upcoming weeks.

Water Resources Minister Shri Nimmala Rama Naidu and Chief Secretary Shri K. Vijayanand were present during the session. Officials presented detailed reports on the status of major and minor irrigation projects, highlighting areas where water storage needed immediate attention. The Chief Minister instructed officials to coordinate closely with local authorities to ensure that all tanks, minor irrigation reservoirs, and large-scale water bodies are properly managed to capture maximum rainfall.

The video conference also included discussions on maintaining the structural integrity of key reservoirs and minimizing losses due to leakage or overflow. Shri Chandrababu Naidu underscored the need for systematic monitoring of water inflows and outflows, stressing that every measure should be taken to optimize water storage before the conclusion of the rainy season.

District collectors were tasked with submitting regular updates on water levels, inflow rates, and the operational status of irrigation projects. The Chief Minister also urged officials to prioritize regions prone to water scarcity and ensure equitable distribution of stored water for agricultural, domestic, and industrial use.

The meeting highlighted the government’s proactive approach in managing water resources, reflecting a concerted effort to mitigate potential shortages and ensure sustainability. By directing that reservoirs and tanks be filled in advance, the state administration aims to strengthen irrigation support for farmers and secure drinking water supplies for urban and rural communities alike.
