Cleanliness Is the Foundation of Urban Growth: MLA Surendra Babu

Emphasising that cleanliness is a shared civic responsibility , Kalyandurg MLA Amilineni Surendra Babu urged residents to actively support sanitation efforts instead of leaving the task entirely to municipal workers .

He launched the “Operation Clean Sweep” campaign at Valmiki Junction on Tuesday as part of a municipal initiative aimed at improving hygiene standards across the town. To spread awareness, the MLA joined sanitation staff in cleaning roads and encouraged the public to participate in keeping their surroundings clean.

Speaking at the event, Surendra Babu said the programme reflects the goals of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat mission and the state government’s push to build cleaner and better-managed urban areas under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

He appealed to residents to stop dumping waste indiscriminately and instead practise waste segregation by separating wet and dry garbage before handing it over to sanitation staff. He noted that work at the town’s dump yard has slowed due to improper disposal of plastic waste and said stronger public cooperation would help authorities complete the project and improve the area for future public use.

Officials said the campaign will continue until June 20, with teams conducting door-to-door awareness drives on proper waste disposal and hygiene practices.
