Clashes Erupt At Congress Youth Wing Meeting Over Disciplinary Action

Clashes broke out between rival groups of workers of the Indian National Congress youth wing here on Monday during a state executive meeting, following disciplinary action against several office-bearers , sources said.

The meeting, convened at the party office, was organised by the Karnataka Youth Congress to discuss an upcoming protest over the alleged NEET examination paper leak . However, the discussions soon turned tense over internal organisational issues.

Supporters of Karnataka Youth Congress president Manjunath Gowda and state vice-president Deepika Reddy were involved in a heated exchange during the meeting. The situation escalated when some office-bearers, who had recently been placed “on hold,” demanded permission to raise their concerns during the proceedings.

According to party sources, around 15 office-bearers had been placed on hold by the National Youth Congress for allegedly missing organisational meetings , staying away from protest programmes, and failing to respond to official notices issued by the party.

During the meeting, these members objected to their suspension status and sought an opportunity to speak. This led to a verbal altercation over speaking rights , which quickly escalated into pushing and jostling between rival groups inside the meeting hall.

“There was an argument over allowing certain leaders to speak. The situation briefly escalated, but senior leaders intervened and brought it under control,” a Congress source present at the meeting said.

Party leaders reportedly stepped in to defuse the situation and restore order, preventing further escalation. No serious injuries were reported.

The incident highlighted internal tensions within the youth organisation , especially over disciplinary action, participation in party activities, and factional differences within the state unit.

The meeting was eventually concluded after senior intervention, though the episode exposed continuing disagreements within the party’s youth structure.
