CJI Surya Kant Urges Youth To Build Character And Lifelong Learning At CBLU Convocation
Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Saturday said the future of India lies in the hands of the country’s students and youth, urging them to cultivate strong character, acquire knowledge and become responsible citizens capable of helping the nation scale new heights.
Addressing the 5th convocation ceremony of Chaudhary Bansi Lal University at its Premnagar campus in Haryana’s Bhiwani district, the CJI said academic degrees alone do not define success. According to him, real achievement stems from discipline, diligence, effective use of time and a lifelong commitment to learning.
Justice Surya Kant said education should strengthen character, self-confidence and moral values rather than merely ensuring employment. He noted that students’ success should not be judged solely by examination results but by the kind of citizens they become during their educational journey. Qualities such as integrity, sensitivity and a spirit of service, he said, are as important as knowledge.
He remarked that many students consider their degree a ticket to employment or status, but the true value of education lies in the habits of mind and intellectual discipline it cultivates, which continue to guide individuals long after their academic years.
Recalling the legacy of former Haryana chief minister Chaudhary Bansi Lal , after whom the university is named, the Chief Justice said his life exemplified dedication, foresight and commitment to public service. He also shared personal memories of Bansi Lal placing his trust in him at a young age by offering him the post of additional advocate general.
During the convocation, 408 undergraduate and postgraduate students received degrees , including 310 women and 98 men , while 11 scholars were awarded PhD degrees . A total of 36 meritorious students received gold medals , of whom 31 were women , highlighting the growing academic prominence of female students.
The ceremony was presided over by Haryana Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh , who urged graduates to uphold strong moral values and translate their education into meaningful contributions to society and nation-building. Senior dignitaries including Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Haryana Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda were also present.
