Senior police officials investigating the murder of a young woman in a village under Palnadu district , Andhra Pradesh, have ordered the suspension of local Circle Inspector ( CI ) Venkataramana. He is accused of aiding the suspects and accepting bribes , according to official orders issued on Sunday.

Police Account:

The victim, Chowdeshwari , and a young man named Nagaraju were in a relationship. Both belong to the same community and had previously eloped from their homes, seeking police protection at that time. In the presence of the CI, her parents promised the police that they would marry Chowdeshwari to Nagaraju. Believing their assurances, Chowdeshwari returned home.

A few days later, suspecting that her marriage was being stalled, Chowdeshwari informed her family that she intended to return to Nagaraju. On March 18 , she was found dead under suspicious circumstances. Her family initially filed a complaint claiming she had committed suicide by self-immolation .

Post-Mortem Report Reveals Truth:

While preliminary investigations had considered it a suicide, the post-mortem report revealed otherwise . Doctors confirmed that Chowdeshwari had not taken her own life but had been strangled to death , establishing the case as a clear honor killing .

Allegations Against the Inspector

CI Venkataramana faced strong criticism for his role in the case. Allegations suggest he accepted a large sum of money from the victim’s father , which led him to forcibly hand her over to her family. Officials stated that the inspector was suspended for failing to protect the victim and for engaging in financial transactions with the suspects .

The case has been registered under the Indian Penal Code , with the possibility of adding further sections as the investigation progresses. Local residents are demanding strict action against the family members responsible and the police officer who aided them .
