Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ Crosses $1 Billion, Set To Become His Biggest Hit

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has turned into one of 2026’s biggest box office stories. The epic has crossed $1 billion worldwide in just three weeks, becoming the fifth film this year to reach the mark.

The film has earned $429.65 million in North America and $578.8 million overseas, taking its global total to $1.008 billion. In India, The Odyssey has collected around ₹157.74 crore net, with its gross collection reaching about ₹188.02 crore. IMAX has played a huge role in the film’s success, contributing about $257 million worldwide. The film has also held well after its opening weekend, helped by strong word of mouth and steady audience interest.

The Odyssey joins four other billion dollar films released in 2026. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has made about $1.009 billion, Michael around $1.01 billion, Toy Story 5 about $1.02 billion and Spider Man: Brand New Day around $1.05 billion so far.

For Nolan, the bigger record is now within reach. The Dark Knight finished with about $1.006 billion, while The Dark Knight Rises made around $1.084 billion. The Odyssey has already passed The Dark Knight and needs only about $76 million more to beat The Dark Knight Rises.

That target looks easy to reach, especially with China opening on August 14 and Japan on September 11. Both markets could push the film well beyond Nolan’s current career best.

The Odyssey will therefore soon become Nolan’s highest grossing film, giving him his third billion dollar hit after the two Batman movies.
