Indian fans of Christopher Nolan are in for a cinematic treat. The Oscar-winning filmmaker will travel to Mumbai next month with Hollywood stars Matt Damon and Tom Holland for the India premiere of his much-awaited epic The Odyssey , marking the first time a Nolan film will receive an official premiere in the country.

Nolan will be accompanied by producer wife Emma Thomas, while Damon and Holland, who portray Odysseus and his son Telemachus respectively, will join the celebrations as part of the film's global promotional tour . Mumbai has been selected as one of only four cities worldwide to host a premiere event for the film, alongside London, Paris and New York. The film releases globally on July 17.

The premiere will take place at PVR Icon IMAX: Phoenix Palladium , a fitting venue for a film being touted as the first feature ever shot entirely using IMAX cameras. Filmed across multiple countries and locations, The Odyssey is widely regarded as Nolan's most ambitious project since Oppenheimer , with reports suggesting the production used more than two million feet of IMAX film and pushed the boundaries of large-format filmmaking .

Advance IMAX ticket sales have already generated tremendous buzz in India, with premium screenings witnessing strong demand weeks before release.

The ensemble cast also includes Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Zendaya and Charlize Theron. Written and directed by Nolan, the film adapts Homer's legendary tale of Odysseus' decade-long journey home after the fall of Troy.

Interestingly, this is not Nolan's first visit to India. The filmmaker and Emma Thomas were in Mumbai in 2018 for the Reframing the Future of Film initiative focused on preserving celluloid filmmaking.

Nolan's return has also sparked speculation that he could visit the sets of S. S. Rajamouli's upcoming epic Varanasi , a project frequently compared to Nolan's grand-scale filmmaking and IMAX vision. However, no official announcement has been made, and the Mumbai premiere remains the only confirmed engagement on his India itinerary.
