Chiranjeevi Charitable Trust receives FCRA approval from Centre
The central government has granted FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act) approval to the Chiranjeevi Charitable Trust (CCT), allowing the organisation founded by actor Chiranjeevi to receive donations from foreign countries.
Established on 2 October 1998, the trust has long been engaged in humanitarian and social welfare initiatives, particularly in the fields of healthcare, blood donation, and eye care. The official website of the trust was launched by Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan on 18 October 2021 at the blood-bank facility in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, making its services more accessible to the public and allowing online registration for donations and volunteer activities.
Over the years, the trust has made a significant impact. It has collected over 9.30 lakh units of blood, of which around 79% were distributed free to poor and disadvantaged patients. The trust’s eye donation and cornea transplant programmes have helped thousands of visually impaired people regain their sight, with approximately 4,580 pairs of eyes donated and over 9,000 cornea transplants performed. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the trust also expanded its services to provide oxygen support through dedicated oxygen banks. These initiatives collectively reflect the trust’s long-term commitment to saving and improving lives, particularly among vulnerable communities.
The newly granted FCRA approval will further strengthen the trust’s capacity to expand its charitable work. With the ability to receive donations from abroad, CCT can now collaborate with international philanthropic organisations, global donors, and institutional charity partners. This opens the door for the trust to adopt newer medical technologies, enhance its healthcare infrastructure, increase the scale of blood, eye, and oxygen donation services, and reach a larger number of beneficiaries across India. Supporters view the approval as recognition of the trust’s transparent operations and Chiranjeevi’s decades-long commitment to social welfare.
The FCRA clearance is expected to help CCT sustain and grow its initiatives, bringing essential medical and humanitarian aid to thousands more people every year, while strengthening the foundation’s position as one of India’s most prominent charitable organisations.
