Chinnaswamy Stadium honours Anil Kumble and Rahul Dravid with dedicated stands
Karnataka cricket added another proud chapter to its rich history as the Karnataka State Cricket Association decided to name two stands at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium after legendary cricketers Anil Kumble and Rahul Dravid.
The decision recognises the immense contribution of both stalwarts to Karnataka and Indian cricket. Kumble remains India’s highest wicket taker in Tests and ODIs , a record that underlines his match winning impact across formats. Dravid, celebrated for his technical excellence and calm temperament, stands as India’s second highest Test run scorer after Sachin Tendulkar. Both also had the honour of leading the national side as captains.
In a statement released by the association, Kumble described the recognition as deeply special. He emphasised that the honour was not about whose name was placed on which stand, but about acknowledging the collective effort that shaped Karnataka cricket into a powerhouse.
“I do not think it would be out of turn to state that all our contributions have made Karnataka cricket what it is, just as Karnataka cricket is what has made all of us,” Kumble said. He added that having the contributions permanently etched in the stadium was truly meaningful.
Kumble also expressed happiness that Dravid and former India women’s captain Shantha Rangaswamy were being recognised for their contributions. He congratulated them and reflected on the pride of seeing stands named after several Karnataka legends, some of whom he had played alongside and others who had set the standards for future generations.
The move strengthens the emotional bond between Karnataka’s cricketing legacy and its present , ensuring that every match played at Chinnaswamy will echo with the names of two of India’s finest cricketers.
