“Chief Minister responsible for corruption” — Kavitha slams GHMC irregularities

Telangana Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Friday alleged that corruption under the Congress government in the state has reached alarming levels. Speaking to the media at the Jagruthi office in Banjara Hills, she made strong remarks against the administration.

Kavitha alleged that the Chief Minister is directly responsible for large-scale corruption in the GHMC and HMDA .

Rs 1,148 crore nomination scam allegation

She stated that, typically, even works worth Rs 5 lakh in villages are executed through tenders. However, in GHMC, works worth Rs 1,148 crore were allegedly allotted to associates through the nomination method, bypassing tenders. She termed this a clear violation of the Telangana State Financial Code and demanded the immediate cancellation of the nomination system. The Congress, which criticised the previous government, is now indulging in even larger-scale corruption, she alleged.

Collections under ‘HYDRAA’

Kavitha accused the government of intimidating real estate firms under the name of ‘HYDRAA’ , allegedly collecting Rs 150 per square foot from developers. She warned that if such practices do not stop, they would submit a detailed dossier of corruption to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) . She also questioned how the Rs 35,000 crore generated from Hyderabad development-related land sales was utilised.

Allegations on Kaleshwaram project

Accusing the government of adopting a dual approach towards the Kaleshwaram project , Kavitha said it was being deliberately portrayed as a failure. She alleged that 8.5 lakh acres were left dry, adversely affecting farmers, and claimed that repair works were being used as a pretext for commissions.

Criticism on Women’s Reservation Bill

On the issue of women’s reservation, she alleged that the government’s approach is against Backward Classes (BCs) . Implementing reservations based on the 2011 Census , she said, amounts to deceiving women. She demanded that reservations be implemented only after conducting a BC census post the 2027 Census .

Sharp warning to MP Arvind

Responding to alleged remarks made against her by Nizamabad MP Arvind , Kavitha said:

“Telangana women are self-reliant. I am a daughter shaped by the movement. Arvind should control his tongue; if he speaks recklessly, it will not be tolerated.”

She also announced the formation of 21 committees to organise Telangana Jagruthi programmes, stating that around 500 volunteers are being mobilised to ensure smooth conduct of events, with full details available online.
