Prabhas and S.S. Rajamouli’s blockbuster Chatrapathi completes 21 years today, marking another milestone for the action drama that remains one of the most popular films of the actor’s early career. The film is now set to return to theatres in a 4K version on October 23, 2026, coinciding with Prabhas’ birthday.

Released on September 30, 2005, Chatrapathi marked the first collaboration between Prabhas and S.S. Rajamouli. The film was produced by B.V.S.N. Prasad under Sri Venkateswara Cine Chitra, with M.M. Keeravani composed the music. The story was written by V. Vijayendra Prasad, while K.K. Senthil Kumar handled the cinematography.

Prabhas played Sivaji, a Sri Lankan refugee who, along with his family, is forced into a difficult life after being displaced from their community. The family eventually reaches Visakhapatnam, where Sivaji rises against the exploitation of migrant workers and becomes a protector of oppressed people. Shriya Saran played the female lead, while Bhanupriya, Pradeep Rawat, Kota Srinivasa Rao and Shafi appeared in important roles.

The film combined action with an emotional family drama, particularly focusing on the relationship between Sivaji and his mother Parvati, played by Bhanupriya. Its action sequences, emotional moments and Keeravani’s music helped establish Chatrapathi as a major mass entertainer.

The film also received recognition at the Nandi Awards, with Bhanupriya winning Best Supporting Actress and M.M. Keeravani receiving the Best Music Director award.

The upcoming re-release has been announced by Kailash Films, with the 4K version scheduled to hit theatres on October 23 as part of Prabhas’ birthday celebrations. The announcement has generated renewed interest among fans, with social-media posts revisiting the film’s memorable scenes and Prabhas’ performance.

Interestingly, Chatrapathi had previously returned to theatres in a 4K version on October 23, 2023, also on Prabhas’ birthday. The earlier re-release saw strong fan celebrations in Hyderabad, with videos showing audiences cheering for the actor during several iconic sequences.

Nearly two decades after its original release, the film continues to hold a special place among Prabhas’ fans. Its 2026 theatrical return is expected to bring the Rajamouli-Prabhas combination back to the big screen for another celebration of one of Telugu cinema’s memorable action entertainers.
