Charging revolution: New EV alliance sparks India’s next boom

The Indian Charge Point Operators Association (ICPOA), the country’s first and only industry body dedicated exclusively to electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, hosted its flagship annual event, the Bharat EV Charging Conclave 2025, on September 22 at The Lalit, New Delhi.

The conclave brought together a wide range of stakeholders including Charge Point Operators (CPOs), Charger Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), Electric Mobility Service Providers (EMSPs), policymakers, utilities, technology experts, and automakers. The deliberations focused on building reliable, interoperable, and consumer-centric EV charging infrastructure to support India’s clean mobility transition and its commitment to net zero emissions by 2070.

Conclave highlights

The Bharat EV Charging Conclave 2025 featured keynote addresses, panel discussions, and interactive sessions with leaders from government, think tanks, consulting organizations, and industry.

Key focus areas included:

• Policy frameworks to accelerate EV adoption and charging infrastructure development.

• Grid integration and renewable energy readiness for charging networks.

• Automaker perspectives on EV deployment strategies and consumer confidence-building.

• Research and technology innovations aimed at enhancing the public charging experience and ensuring reliability.

EV growth in India

India recorded sales of over 1.5 million electric vehicles in FY2024 across categories, with increasing penetration of electric buses and four-wheelers contributing to the sector’s momentum. The Indian Charge Point Operators Association (ICPOA), a Section 8 non-profit, aims to advance India’s EV charging ecosystem through policy advocacy, industry collaboration, and consumer awareness. Speaking at the Bharat EV Charging Conclave 2025, Chairman Awadhesh Kumar Jha highlighted ICPOA’s mission to make EV adoption reliable and accessible, emphasizing initiatives like the Know Your Battery (KYB) program to educate consumers and strengthen confidence in EV infrastructure nationwide.

Key initiatives and partnerships

ICPOA works closely with government agencies, regulators, energy companies, researchers, and OEMs to ensure roaming, interoperability, and reliability in EV charging services. The conclave highlighted collaborative efforts across industry players to expand charging networks and improve integration with renewable energy sources.
