Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has strongly criticised the INDIA bloc , accusing it of obstructing the Women’s Reservation Bill and delaying efforts to enhance women’s representation in legislatures.

During a teleconference with NDA MPs, MLAs, and ministers on Friday, he alleged that opposition parties were creating unnecessary hurdles for a landmark reform aimed at women’s empowerment . He urged NDA leaders to actively highlight what he described as the opposition’s contradictory stance on the issue.

Naidu called for statewide awareness campaigns and public outreach programmes under the banner “Stree Shakti” at various levels. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts among BJP , TDP , and Jana Sena leaders to effectively communicate the significance of the Bill to the public.

NDA leaders also targeted the Congress party , alleging that it had historically stalled women’s reservation measures. They claimed that although the Bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha during the UPA regime, it was not pursued in the Lok Sabha due to political considerations.

They further accused the INDIA bloc of using the delimitation issue as a pretext to oppose the Bill, despite assurances from the Centre that regional interests, particularly of southern states, would be protected.

On delimitation concerns, Chandrababu Naidu said Union Home Minister Amit Shah had already clarified the Centre’s position, assuring that no state would be unfairly treated and that necessary adjustments could be made if required.

Reiterating the NDA’s commitment to women’s empowerment, leaders highlighted past initiatives such as the establishment of India’s first women’s university by N.T. Rama Rao and reservations for women in local bodies introduced by the Telugu Desam Party.

They expressed confidence that the Women’s Reservation Bill would eventually be enacted and said public opinion would play a key role in holding opposition parties accountable for their stance.
