Chandrababu calls for Kerala-style traffic alerts in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to implement a Kerala-style system of sending warning messages to citizens’ mobile phones before issuing fines for traffic violations.

Speaking in an official statement, Chandrababu said, “Authorities should first send warnings to people’s mobile phones for traffic rule violations. Fines should be imposed only if violations continue repeatedly. Using fines to intimidate citizens is not the right approach.”

The directive came during a review meeting on rising road accidents and stampedes. The Chief Minister emphasized the need for public awareness campaigns on traffic rules and helmet usage across the state.

To prevent stampedes during large gatherings, he instructed officials to issue early warnings in high-risk areas and focus on crowd management. He also called for immediate repairs on roads with potholes and proper drainage systems to prevent waterlogging during heavy rains.

On the employment front, Chandrababu urged authorities to organize large-scale job fairs across districts to boost opportunities for the youth and strengthen the state’s workforce and industrial growth.

He also expressed dissatisfaction with the functioning of the Registrar offices, directing officials to eliminate corruption and improve efficiency, setting a two-and-a-half-month deadline for visible improvements.
