Champions clash in BFI semis

The inaugural BFI Cup saw top Indian boxing talent shine on Saturday as the semifinal line-up was finalized, promising an exciting culmination to the prestigious event. World Championships silver medallist Manju Rani (Railways) led the charge in the women’s section, producing a commanding 5-0 victory to secure her spot in the last four.

Joining her are World Youth champion Ankushita Boro (Assam), former Youth World champion Arundhati Choudhary (Services), U-22 silver medallist Priya (Haryana), and World Championships bronze medallist Parveen Hooda (SAI), all displaying exceptional skill and determination.

In the men’s division, the spotlight belonged to World Cup bronze medallist Manish Rathore (AIP), U-22 Asian bronze medallist Rocky (AIP), and Asian Games gold medallist Amit Panghal (Services), who advanced with dominant performances, highlighting Services’ continued stronghold in the sport.

The BFI Cup features elite boxers from state units, boards, SAI NCOE, and hosts Tamil Nadu, including top-eight finishers from the Elite Nationals, participants from the last two Elite National Championships, Indian team members from the 2024 and 2025 Asian U-22 Championships, and international medalists since 2022. Additional depth comes from Goa and Uttarakhand National Games and 6th Youth Nationals medalists, all routed through official state units and boards.

Competitions span ten weight categories each for Elite Men and Women, in line with World Boxing standards. The event not only offers a platform for emerging talent but also serves as a gateway to the Elite National Camp, with gold and silver medallists earning coveted spots.
