Chain-snatching arrest sparks clash: AAP Chief Gadhvi faces rioting charges in Gujarat

Isudan Gadhvi , the Gujarat unit chief of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), along with around 30 party workers , has been booked for alleged rioting and unlawful assembly following a protest at the Khambhalia police station on Wednesday.

According to police officials, the protest was triggered by the arrest of an AAP worker, Dipak Singh , who was taken into custody on Tuesday in connection with a chain-snatching case . Gadhvi and several AAP supporters reached the police station in the afternoon to demonstrate against what they described as a targeted action against party members.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Vismay Manseta stated that the protesters allegedly created a disturbance inside the premises. “They began abusing police personnel, issued threats, and attempted to create a ruckus, disrupting normal functioning,” the officer said.

Following the incident, an FIR was registered against Gadhvi and others under charges including rioting, unlawful assembly, and obstruction of a public servant in the discharge of duty .

The protest also gained momentum after Gopal Italia, an AAP MLA from Visavadar, called on supporters via social media to gather at the police station in solidarity with Gadhvi.

Meanwhile, AAP leaders have alleged a broader pattern of political targeting in the BJP-ruled state. Party leader Gopal Rai claimed that 162 cases have been registered against AAP members , accusing the ruling establishment of acting under political pressure.

The situation highlights escalating tensions between the ruling establishment and opposition parties in Gujarat, with AAP alleging a crackdown on its leadership and cadre.
