Centre Under Scrutiny: Owaisi Questions China’s Growing Footprint in Ladakh

Hyderabad MP and MIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi has launched a sharp attack on the central government over the India-China border tensions in Ladakh , demanding answers on the current situation and the nature of any agreements with China.

Owaisi raised concerns about the buffer zones established along the border, asking how long they would remain in place. Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), he tagged the Prime Minister’s Office and posed pointed questions: What deal has India struck with China? Can our troops still patrol the areas they monitored before April 2020? If not, why?

He also questioned India’s ability to stop China from providing military support to Pakistan , challenging the government’s claims that friendship with China benefits the country. “If China continues military assistance to Pakistan, what does our friendship with China even mean?” he asked.

Citing an international media report, Owaisi pointed out that a foreign journalist taken to Ladakh by the government revealed that China’s infrastructure development along the border has doubled since 2020 . “How are we allowing this to happen?” he demanded.

He criticized the government for appearing timid in dealing with China , claiming that Indian forces face multiple restrictions preventing them from taking action along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) . He also alleged that in discussions about buffer zones, the government seems to be treating China’s stance as the standard .

Urging the Centre to act in the national interest , Owaisi emphasized that a smoothly functioning Parliament is essential for raising such crucial questions. “If Parliament does not function properly, these matters remain unaddressed. Tomorrow too, I fear, the Prime Minister’s Office will issue a statement amid chaos,” he warned.

Meanwhile, tensions in the Lok Sabha escalated on Tuesday. The confrontation between the government and opposition intensified when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was prevented, for the second consecutive day, from referring to a news report on unpublished memoirs of former army chief M.M. Naravane regarding the 2020 India-China clash. In the aftermath of unruly behavior in the House, eight MPs were suspended .
