Centre Releases ₹2,600 Crore to Keralam, Says BJP President Rajeev Chandrasekhar
BJP Keralam president Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Sunday said the Centre had released around ₹2,600 crore to the state, expressing hope that the funds would be utilised for public welfare.
In a post on X, Chandrasekhar described the allocation as good news for the state government and its people on the occasion of Keralam Piravi, the state's formation day.
He, however, criticised the financial management of the state government led by Chief Minister V D Satheesan, alleging that Keralam was struggling to provide adequate resources for medicines, electricity and employment because of its debt burden.
“Good news for govt and people of Keralam on #KeralamPiravi. 2600crs released by central govt,” Chandrasekhar said in his post, thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the allocation.
He also expressed hope that the state government would use the money for public benefit and prevent its alleged misuse, drawing a comparison with the previous government led by Pinarayi Vijayan.
Neither Satheesan nor Vijayan had responded to the BJP leader's remarks at the time of publication.
Chandrasekhar also cited allocations to other states in his post, claiming that Uttar Pradesh had received more than ₹19,000 crore, while Bihar had been allocated over ₹10,000 crore.
According to the figures shared by him, Madhya Pradesh received ₹8,010 crore, West Bengal ₹7,866 crore and Maharashtra ₹7,022 crore.
The BJP leader's remarks come amid continuing political exchanges over the financial position of Keralam and the Centre's financial assistance to states.
However, the post did not specify the precise head under which the ₹2,600 crore was released or provide a detailed breakdown of the amount.
The allocation details and allegations regarding the state's finances could not be independently verified from the information available in the report.
