Centre Diluting Rural Jobs Scheme Says Telangana CM

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Thursday announced an aggressive grassroots campaign against what he described as the Union government’s attempts to dilute the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA).

Addressing a high-level meeting at the Congress state headquarters, Gandhi Bhavan, chaired by TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, Revanth Reddy launched a sharp attack on the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre. He accused it of weakening a welfare scheme introduced by the UPA government to ensure livelihood security for rural families.

The Chief Minister said the Centre had not only altered the structure of the employment guarantee programme but had also undermined its original spirit, causing hardship to the poor. He demanded that the scheme be restored to its original form and announced that the Congress would intensify its fight both politically and at the grassroots level.

Statewide Protest Plan Announced:

Revanth Reddy recalled that the Telangana Assembly had already passed a unanimous resolution opposing the Centre’s changes to the scheme. He then outlined the party’s next phase of action.

From January 20 to 30 , village-level meetings will be held across the state, where resolutions will be passed opposing the Centre’s policies. This will be followed by large public meetings in all erstwhile districts from February 3 to 9 , aimed at mobilising public opinion against the Union government.

Focus on Municipal Elections:

With municipal elections approaching, Revanth Reddy called upon party leaders and workers to work with renewed commitment to strengthen the Congress at the local level. In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter), he said the party’s immediate goal was to ensure a Congress victory in the upcoming civic polls.

“The party came to power because of the hard work of our grassroots workers. Now it is our responsibility to ensure their victory,” he said.

Making a strong personal commitment, the Chief Minister added, “I will not limit myself to campaigning street by street. I will go to every house to seek people’s support.”
