Telangana’s efforts to improve road connectivity, reduce traffic congestion and cut travel time have received a boost, with the Centre responding positively to several proposals involving highways, bridges, elevated corridors and ropeways. The projects are expected to strengthen transport links, improve road safety and support economic and tourism development across the state.

State Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy discussed the proposals with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari during a meeting in New Delhi. The state government said Gadkari responded favourably to several requests and instructed officials to take the necessary steps to advance the projects.

A key proposal concerns a double-decker elevated corridor between LB Nagar and Hayathnagar in Hyderabad. The project is aimed at easing congestion on the rapidly developing stretch and improving the daily commute for thousands of motorists. The Centre has agreed to include the proposal in its annual plan, according to the state government.

The meeting also focused on expanding National Highway 65, which connects Hyderabad with Vijayawada and Machilipatnam and serves as an important route for passenger and commercial traffic. Gadkari assured the state that the tendering process would be completed in November, with construction expected to begin in January 2027.

Another major proposal is an iconic cable-stayed bridge across the Krishna River on NH-167K. Gadkari agreed to attend its foundation stone-laying ceremony. The bridge is expected to improve connectivity between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, shorten the Hyderabad–Tirupati journey by around 80 kilometres and reduce travel time by approximately three hours. It is also expected to encourage tourism and generate employment opportunities in the Somasila region.

Officials have been directed to prepare a fresh Detailed Project Report for the Hyderabad–Srisailam elevated corridor on NH-765. Proposals for five ropeways under the Parvatmala scheme and three railway overbridges under the Setu Bandhan scheme also received a favourable response. The proposed Hyderabad–Amaravati greenfield highway figured in the discussions as well.

Komatireddy urged the Centre to speed up fund allocation for 34 projects under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund in Telangana.

Gadkari also accepted an invitation to attend the Indian Road Congress, scheduled in Hyderabad from November 19 to 22. State Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, MP Mallu Ravi, Government Whip Beerla Ilaiah and senior officials attended the meeting.
