Centre Approves ₹2,447.9 Crore for AP Under National Health Mission

Andhra Pradesh has received a ₹2,447.9 crore allocation under the National Health Mission (NHM) for the 2026–27 financial year, with the funding expected to strengthen public healthcare services ranging from emergency treatment and diagnostics to medicines and teleconsultation.

State Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav said the approved resource envelope includes ₹1,468.7 crore as the Central share and ₹979.1 crore from the state government. The Centre has advised the state to prioritise programmes according to the availability of funds.

The biggest share of the allocation, ₹1,008.5 crore, has been earmarked for human resources and staff salaries. Medicines, vaccines and reagents will receive ₹411.1 crore in grant-in-kind support.

Major allocations have also been made for tuberculosis control and treatment, free diagnostic services, routine immunisation, Health and Wellness Centres and 108 ambulance services. Funding has additionally been provided for the Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram, National Urban Health Mission, Anaemia Mukt Bharat, free medicines, community engagement, newborn care and medical equipment maintenance.

The NHM package also includes support for programmes targeting cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and stroke, besides free dialysis services.

The government has earmarked ₹75.5 crore for five new NHM initiatives, aimed largely at strengthening emergency and technology-enabled healthcare. The allocations include ₹26.6 crore for STEMI drugs used in emergency heart attack treatment, ₹25.8 crore for care coordination and teleconsultation rooms, and ₹11 crore for desktop computers to support teleconsultation services.

Additional funding will go towards emergency trauma care equipment and burn unit facilities. Resources have also been set aside for healthcare delivery in tribal and remote areas, blood services, and programmes focused on leprosy and viral hepatitis.

According to Satya Kumar Yadav, the ₹2,447.9 crore resource envelope includes ₹411.1 crore in grant-in-kind assistance and ₹120.7 crore for infrastructure maintenance, resulting in a net cash availability of ₹1,916.1 crore.

He said ₹1,175 crore has already been released through the combined Central and state contributions. The state government will focus on ensuring that the funds translate into direct benefits for the public by improving emergency medical care, teleconsultation services and access to essential medicines, vaccines and medical equipment, the minister said.
