Centre Appoints Srimannarayana as NIA Special Prosecutor

The Union Home Ministry has appointed K. Srimannarayana as Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) for the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, aiming to strengthen the handling of sensitive cases.

Issued on Monday, the appointment is under the NIA Act 2008 and the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023 , with a tenure of three years.

Srimannarayana will represent the NIA in special courts and High Courts, dealing with cases related to terrorism , national security threats , and cross-border conspiracies. His role will focus on effective legal coordination, evidence presentation, and witness examination, particularly in cases under stringent laws like the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Officials said the move is intended to reinforce the prosecution system, ensuring quicker trials and better conviction rates . The NIA has recently intensified its focus on terror financing, radicalisation networks, and cross-border activities.

Security experts believe the appointment will help speed up case proceedings in the Telugu states by improving coordination between investigative agencies and the judiciary, reducing delays and strengthening action against anti-national elements.
