Centre Allocates Tadicherla-2 Block to Strengthen Singareni, Says Kishan Reddy

The Union Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and protecting the interests of its workforce, with Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy describing the direct allocation of the Tadicherla-2 coal block as a transformative step for the state-owned miner. He said the project would not only bolster SCCL's financial position but also generate employment and ensure long-term energy security.

Addressing workers during the second day of the "Singareni Bharosa Yatra" in Ramagundam and Godavarikhani , Kishan Reddy said the Centre remains committed to expanding Singareni's mining capacity while improving workers' welfare. The yatra was organised to highlight the Union Government's initiatives aimed at securing the future of the coal company and its employees.

The minister alleged that successive BRS and Congress governments had largely viewed Singareni as a source of revenue instead of investing in its long-term growth. He noted that the company's workforce has declined from nearly 70,000 employees to around 40,000 , underscoring the need for new mining projects and fresh employment opportunities.

Highlighting the importance of the Tadicherla-2 project, Kishan Reddy said that although coal blocks across India are generally allocated through auctions following the Supreme Court's directions, the Centre made a special decision to allot the block directly to SCCL after nearly 11 years . He said the allocation, approved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi , fulfilled a long-standing demand of Singareni workers and would significantly strengthen the public-sector miner.

Describing it as the largest coal block in the history of Telangana and Singareni , the minister said Tadicherla-2 contains an estimated 350 million tonnes of coal reserves , sufficient to sustain mining operations for 40 to 50 years . The project is expected to generate a turnover exceeding ₹1.20 lakh crore at current market prices, while enhancing SCCL's contribution to India's energy needs.

Kishan Reddy also said the Centre is facilitating the launch of production at the Naini coal block in Odisha , another project allocated to SCCL. Together, the two projects are expected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs , boost economic activity in coal-bearing regions and strengthen the company's long-term viability.

Calling for speedy execution, the minister urged the Singareni management to fast-track statutory, environmental and forest clearances required for the Tadicherla-2 project so that commercial coal production can begin without delay.

The programme was attended by BJP Telangana President N. Ramchander Rao , MPs Eatala Rajender and Godam Nagesh , MLC Anji Reddy , MLAs Payal Mahesh Reddy and Dhanpal Suryanarayana Gupta , along with party leaders, Singareni employees and workers.
