Central Railway disrupted as man climbs high-tension pole at Kalyan Station

Train services on Sunday were disrupted for nearly 90 minutes after a man climbed an overhead equipment (OHE) mast at Kalyan Railway Station and later fell onto the tracks, sustaining serious injuries.

The incident occurred around 2 pm , when the 35-year-old man climbed a high-tension pole supplying electricity to platforms 1, 1A and 2 . Despite repeated appeals from railway officials and commuters, he remained atop the structure, moving along the mast. Authorities suspect he may be mentally unstable , though the exact reason is yet to be confirmed.

As a precaution, officials switched off power on the Down line between Thakurli and Ambivli , since the OHE system carries high-voltage electricity essential for train movement. This led to the halt of two outstation trains and three suburban services , causing delays on the busy route.

The man later slipped and fell onto the tracks , suffering grievous injuries. He was rushed to a government hospital and is undergoing treatment, according to the Government Railway Police.

Power supply was subsequently restored and train services gradually resumed .

Earlier the same day, another disruption occurred in the Kalyan–Kasara section after a crane wire got entangled with an overhead line at Khadavali Railway Station during maintenance work, affecting services until around 6 am .

Railway officials said normal operations were restored after both incidents, though commuters faced inconvenience.
