Central Hall, Lawmakers’ Club in Telangana Assembly Upgrade Plan

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has proposed a major overhaul of the State Legislative Assembly complex, aiming to transform it into a Parliament-style facility with modern infrastructure while preserving its historical identity . The proposal was discussed during a high-level review meeting at the Assembly premises, attended by Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukender Reddy, and senior officials. A key highlight of the plan is the construction of a Central Hall , similar to Parliament, to facilitate joint sittings and improve legislative coordination , with officials directed to complete the work before the next session.

The government is also focusing on improving lawmaker facilities by proposing a dedicated legislators’ club within the Public Gardens area, equipped with a walking track and sports amenities to promote well-being. At the same time, the Chief Minister stressed the need for enhanced security across the Assembly premises, while ensuring that no harm is caused to existing heritage structures during development.

The Assembly complex itself carries significant historical importance, housing a Nizam-era building originally constructed as a Town Hall in the early 20th century. This structure later served as the Assembly during the Hyderabad State period and for undivided Andhra Pradesh until the mid-1980s. A newer building, constructed behind it to accommodate a larger number of legislators, continues to function as the present Assembly, while the older structure is now used for Legislative Council proceedings.

Officials believe the proposed redevelopment will strike a balance between modernization and heritage preservation , creating a future-ready governance hub that reflects Telangana’s evolving administrative vision while safeguarding its architectural legacy.
