AP Kicks Off Census 2027 Preparations with Collectors’ Meet
Andhra Pradesh has formally launched preparations for Census 2027 , with senior officials holding preliminary review meetings with District Collectors and key departments to ready the administrative machinery for the massive national exercise.
Addressing a state-level meeting at the Secretariat, Deputy Registrar General Dr. V.V.L.N. Sharma from the Office of the Registrar General of India said the success of the census would largely depend on effective coordination at the district and municipal levels. He underlined that District Collectors and Municipal Commissioners would be central to planning, supervision, and field-level execution.
The 2027 enumeration will be India’s 16th Census and the eighth since Independence. Officials said the upcoming census would mark a significant shift, as it is set to be conducted entirely through digital platforms for the first time. Data collection will be carried out using mobile applications and a dedicated web portal, with citizens also being offered a self-enumeration option.
The census will be conducted in two phases House Listing and Housing Census , followed by Population Enumeration . While the first phase will capture details of houses and amenities, the second will focus on individual demographic information.
State Nodal Officer and Special Chief Secretary S.S. Rawat said the Andhra Pradesh government has begun coordination with all departments to ensure smooth implementation of the digital census. He called for close monitoring by district administrations to ensure accuracy and timely completion.
State Census Director J. Nivas said district-wise guidelines have already been issued and urged officials to accelerate preparatory work to ensure Andhra Pradesh is fully ready for Census 2027.
