In an inspiring step towards breaking stigma and fostering inclusivity, a non-governmental organisation in Parbhani city organised a traditional baby shower ceremony for two HIV-positive pregnant women , celebrating motherhood with dignity and compassion.

The initiative, held last week, aimed to challenge deep-rooted misconceptions surrounding HIV and counter the social ostracisation often faced by affected individuals . Organisers emphasised that with timely medical intervention and proper care, children born to HIV-positive mothers can be healthy and HIV-negative , reinforcing the importance of awareness and scientific understanding.

Both women, whose marriages were facilitated by the Homoeopathic Academy of Research and Charities (HARC), were honoured during the ceremony with gifts and essential daily-use items, symbolising community support and acceptance.

A key highlight of the event was a stage performance titled ‘ Kali Umalatana ’, presented by a cultural group. The play conveyed powerful messages about women’s health, motherhood, humanity, and social inclusion , resonating with the audience and underscoring the need for empathy towards marginalized communities.

By blending tradition with social messaging, the event not only celebrated an important milestone in the lives of the two women but also sent a broader message against discrimination. The organisers expressed hope that such initiatives would help dismantle stigma and encourage society to embrace compassion over prejudice .
