Some legends are eternal, and for cricket lovers, Sachin Tendulkar is nothing short of immortal. On 16 November 2025, fans across India paused to mark the 12th anniversary of his retirement, recalling a farewell that still evokes nostalgia, pride, and deep emotion.

Born in Mumbai on 24 April 1973, Sachin grew up in a modest middle-class family with a dream that seemed bigger than the streets he played on. Under the guidance of coach Ramakant Achrekar, he honed his skills on the dusty grounds of Mumbai, showing extraordinary focus, discipline, and talent from a very young age. By the time he was 16, he had already made a name for himself in domestic cricket, and in 1989, he made his Test debut against Pakistan, announcing the arrival of a prodigy destined for greatness.

Over the next 24 years, Tendulkar’s journey became legendary. He faced some of the fiercest bowlers in the world, yet his technique, patience, and cricketing intelligence helped him consistently excel. From record-breaking centuries in Tests and ODIs to leading India to the 2011 World Cup triumph, his career became a testament to perseverance and excellence. Beyond statistics, Tendulkar symbolized the spirit of Indian cricket, humble, resilient, and inspirational.

His final international appearance was a fitting conclusion to this extraordinary career. On 16 November 2013, at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, Tendulkar played his 200th and last Test match against the West Indies. Walking onto the field to a thunderous ovation, he scored 74 runs, offering a final glimpse of the mastery that had defined him for decades. By the end of his career, he had accumulated 34,357 international runs and a record 100 centuries, cementing his place among the greatest cricketers in history.

This anniversary saw fans, cricketing legends, IPL teams, and cricket associations across the country sharing heartfelt tributes on social media. From fellow players to coaches, from domestic cricket clubs to IPL franchises, the messages celebrated not only Tendulkar’s records but the inspiration and joy he brought to Indian cricket. His farewell speech, where he thanked his family, teammates, and supporters, is still remembered for its humility and warmth: “My life has been between 22 yards for 24 years … it’s hard to believe that that wonderful journey is coming to an end.”

Even twelve years on, Tendulkar’s legacy is alive, in stadiums, cricket academies, and the hearts of millions. Beyond the records and milestones, it is his life journey, from a cricket-loving boy in Mumbai to a global icon, that continues to inspire young players and fans alike. Today, as chants of “Sachin, Sachin” echo online and in stadiums, the Little Master reminds us all that greatness is measured not just in numbers, but in the lives and dreams one inspires.
