CBSE Revaluation Portal Hit by Cyber Attack, 50 Students Gained Unauthorised Access
The CBSE revaluation portal was hit by a malicious cyber attack , allowing around 50 students to gain unauthorised access and manipulate payment-related information, according to government sources. The breach triggered irregular fee displays on the platform and prompted authorities to launch a detailed technical review of the system.
Sources said the issue emerged shortly after the portal for post-result services went live. In some cases, the amount payable for revaluation reportedly fluctuated abnormally, ranging from as little as ₹1 to nearly ₹68,000 , causing confusion among students attempting to access the service.
Officials indicated that around 50 students managed to enter the system through unauthorised means. While investigations are still underway, preliminary findings suggest that the attack targeted the portal's payment gateway integration , leading to the fee discrepancies and temporary disruption of services.
The incident comes at a time when thousands of students across the country are applying for revaluation and verification of their examination results. Sources acknowledged that the portal remained partially affected for a period as technical teams worked to identify vulnerabilities and restore normal functioning.
To address the issue, experts from IIT Madras , IIT Kanpur , and the Digital Infrastructure Corporation of India have been brought in to examine the system. The teams are reviewing the portal's code, payment gateway architecture, and security framework to ensure the platform becomes more secure and resistant to future attacks.
Authorities have also moved to strengthen the payment infrastructure by integrating four public sector banks, State Bank of India , Canara Bank , Indian Bank , and Bank of Maharashtra , alongside the existing HDFC payment gateway . The move is aimed at improving reliability and reducing the risk of disruptions.
The development follows discussions between Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman regarding technical difficulties faced by students during the CBSE post-result process. Officials said extensive testing has been conducted following the new integrations.
In addition, the system has been migrated to Amazon Web Services (AWS) to improve server capacity and performance. Authorities said efforts are underway to make the platform seamless, secure, and capable of handling heavy student traffic, while ensuring such incidents do not recur.
