CBSE Re-Evaluation Chaos: Pradhan Seeks Report Over Glitches
The ongoing CBSE re-evaluation process has come under intense scrutiny after thousands of students and parents across the country reported technical glitches, payment failures, and portal access issues . Taking serious note of the complaints, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has sought a detailed report from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) regarding the disruptions that affected students during the crucial post-result process.
According to sources, the minister has asked officials to explain the reasons behind repeated server downtime, payment gateway failures, and operational lapses that created confusion and anxiety among students seeking verification and re-evaluation of their answer sheets. Authorities have also been directed to clarify the preparedness measures taken to handle heavy traffic on the portal and fix accountability of agencies involved in managing the system.
The issue gained momentum after several students and parents complained that the CBSE portal became inaccessible during peak hours, while many faced delays in payment confirmations after submitting applications. Others reported receiving blurred or incomplete scanned copies of evaluated answer sheets, raising concerns about transparency and accuracy in the evaluation process.
Responding to the backlash, CBSE said it remains committed to safeguarding the academic interests of students and is continuously monitoring all reported issues. The board explained that this year more than 98.6 lakh answer sheets were evaluated through the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system , making the exercise one of the largest digital evaluation processes in the country.
CBSE acknowledged that the response to the re-evaluation facility was “extremely large,” leading to unusually high traffic on the portal within a short period. The board admitted that technical disruptions occurred during peak demand but said corrective interventions have already been implemented to minimise inconvenience to students.
In a relief to students, CBSE extended the application deadline for verification and re-evaluation by one additional day till May 24 . The board also clarified that the re-evaluation portal would remain open for two days after the final scanned copy of answer sheets is dispatched.
This year, CBSE also revised its fee structure to make the process more affordable for students. The cost of obtaining scanned answer sheets was reduced from Rs 700 to Rs 100 , while verification charges were slashed from Rs 500 to Rs 100 . Re-evaluation fees have been fixed at Rs 25 per question .
Even as the board attempts damage control, the controversy has once again highlighted the challenges of managing large scale digital academic processes in a country where millions of students depend on timely and error free services during critical examination periods.
