CBI Arrests Renukai Chemistry Classes Founder In NEET UG Paper Leak Case
The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested Shivraj Raghunath Motegaonkar, founder of Renukai Chemistry Classes (RCC) in Maharashtra’s Latur, in connection with the NEET UG paper leak case, officials said on Monday.
According to the agency, a leaked question paper and related material were recovered from Motegaonkar’s mobile phone during searches conducted on Sunday. Following the recovery of the digital evidence , he was taken into custody the same day.
The CBI has alleged that Motegaonkar was part of an organised network involved in the leakage and circulation of the NEET UG examination paper. Investigators further claim that he conspired with other accused persons to obtain access to the question paper and answer key ahead of the examination, which was held on April 23, 2026.
Officials said preliminary findings suggest that after receiving the leaked material, Motegaonkar allegedly circulated it to multiple individuals, expanding the reach of the illegal network. The agency is now examining the chain of communication to identify all those involved in the alleged racket.
During the searches, the agency also seized electronic devices and is carrying out detailed forensic analysis of mobile data, chat records, and other digital evidence. Officials said these inputs are crucial to reconstructing the sequence of events leading up to the exam and the alleged leak.
The investigation has pointed to the possibility of a wider syndicate operating across different states, prompting the agency to probe links between coaching centres, intermediaries, and other facilitators. Officials added that more arrests are likely as the investigation progresses.
The CBI has also stated that Motegaonkar’s role is being closely examined, particularly his alleged involvement in both procurement and distribution of the leaked question paper and answers.
The case has triggered serious concerns over the integrity of national-level entrance examinations, with the agency continuing efforts to dismantle the network responsible for the breach. Further developments are expected as interrogation and forensic examination continue.
