CBFC clears Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar’, finds no link to Major Mohit Sharma

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has re-examined Aditya Dhar’s upcoming spy-action thriller Dhurandhar and found no link to the life of decorated martyr Major Mohit Sharma, granting the Ranveer Singh-starrer clearance for release. The decision follows concerns raised by the martyr’s family, who had moved the Delhi High Court seeking a stay on the film, alleging that it depicts real-life events and individuals without consent.

Earlier, the parents of the late Major Mohit Sharma argued that the film appears to portray real-life figures, including the officer himself, and requested that the CBFC carefully review the matter before granting certification. Advocate Roopenshu Pratap Singh, representing the family, told ANI that the High Court directed the CBFC to “consider all the points raised by the petitioner” and, if needed, consult the competent authority from the army, ADGPI, before making a final decision on certification.

Pratap added that their objection stemmed from the teaser released in September, which they claimed prominently features the character of Major Mohit Sharma, along with other figures based on real-life personalities. “The main protagonist revolves around the late Major Mohit Sharma only,” he said, emphasising that the family still retains the legal option to file further injunctions if necessary.

Despite these concerns, Director Aditya Dhar and the producers have maintained that Dhurandhar is entirely fictional and not based on Major Sharma’s life. The film is written, directed, and co-produced by Dhar under Jio Studios and B62 Studios. The cast includes Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal, with Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi in supporting roles.

With the CBFC’s confirmation that the film has no link to Major Mohit Sharma, Dhurandhar is now cleared to proceed with its release, ending the immediate legal hurdle.
