Case filed against X over alleged misleading AI video targeting PM, ECI

The Kerala Police cyber wing has registered a case against social media platform X and one of its handles for allegedly circulating an AI-generated video that misrepresented the Prime Minister and the Election Commission of India (ECI) in a misleading and defamatory manner.

According to police, the video r eferenced a disputed ECI communication that mistakenly bore the seal of the BJP’s Kerala unit. The clip reportedly used this incident to portray the Prime Minister and the ECI in a distorted way , raising concerns that it could incite unrest and mislead the public .

Police said the content was brought to their notice through official channels, including the ECI . After verification, authorities determined that the video could mislead the public, undermine the credibility of constitutional bodies, and adversely affect the conduct of free and fair elections.

The case specifically names the X account “ Laxmi N Raju (@valiant_Raju)” along with X Corp . It was registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station, Thiruvananthapuram City, late Wednesday night. An investigation has been launched to establish responsibility and take action under the law.

The incident underscores rising concerns over AI-generated misinformation on social media platforms, especially when it targets political leaders and constitutional institutions. Authorities are emphasizing the need for vigilant monitoring to protect democratic processes from such content.
