Carlos Alcaraz Withdraws from Davis Cup Finals Due to Hamstring Injury

Carlos Alcaraz, the world No. 1 tennis player, has been withdrawn from representing Spain at the Davis Cup Finals in Bologna, Italy, due to a hamstring injury. The withdrawal was advised by medical professionals.

It was announced by Alcaraz on X that an edema in his right hamstring had been diagnosed, and the medical recommendation was not to compete. He was described as “heartbroken” over the decision and emphasized that representing Spain had always been considered a great honor.

Alcaraz was scheduled to lead Spain against the No. 4-seeded Czech Republic in the quarterfinals on Thursday. Spain had advanced to this stage after the United States was eliminated in the qualifying round in September. The Czech team includes top-20 players Jiri Lehecka and Jakub Mensik.

Alcaraz had expressed his strong desire to win the Davis Cup in the future, calling the tournament “a really important, important” competition. Last year, Spain was eliminated in the opening round of the Final 8 in Malaga, marking the final match of Rafael Nadal’s career.

Without their top-ranked player, Spain faces a significant challenge against a Czech team considered formidable, while Alcaraz is expected to recover for upcoming tournaments.
