Captain Diana Trophy U-23 Women’s Selection Trials Begin at Wankhede Stadium
The Captain Diana Trophy U-23 Women’s Selection Trial Tournament 2026–27 began at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday, providing young women cricketers an opportunity to compete for selection to represent the city in the upcoming BCCI U-23 Women’s T20 tournament.
The tournament is being organised by Fort Youngsters under the aegis of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). Named in honour of former India women’s cricket captain Diana Edulji, the competition aims to identify promising players and assess their abilities through competitive matches.
The selection trials offer under-23 cricketers a platform to showcase their talent in front of MCA selectors and earn a place in Mumbai’s squad for the forthcoming national-level competition. The initiative is intended to support emerging players by providing them with opportunities to demonstrate their skills and advance in women’s cricket.
Speaking about the tournament, MCA president Ajinkya Naik described the Captain Diana Trophy as an important initiative for aspiring cricketers. He said the competition provides a competitive platform for players to demonstrate their abilities and earn selection to represent Mumbai.
Former India women’s captain Diana Edulji also highlighted the importance of such tournaments in developing young cricketing talent. She noted that Mumbai has always been a powerhouse of Indian cricket and stressed that competitions of this kind give emerging players the exposure and competitive environment needed to progress to the next level.
The tournament is expected to help selectors assess the performances of young players while strengthening Mumbai’s preparations for the upcoming BCCI U-23 Women’s T20 tournament. By creating opportunities for emerging cricketers, the Captain Diana Trophy seeks to contribute to the continued development of women’s cricket in Mumbai.
