Canara Bank donation to Tiruchanoor temple to aid cash handling

Public sector lender Canara Bank has donated a cash counting machine to the Sri Padmavati Ammavaru temple at Tiruchanoor near here, temple authorities said on Friday.

According to an official release, representatives of the nationalised bank handed over the machine to the Deputy Executive Officer of the Sri Padmavati Ammavaru temple, Harindranath, on Thursday. The donation is expected to assist temple staff in handling cash offerings more efficiently.

Sri Padmavati Ammavaru temple, located at Tiruchanoor, is one of the prominent shrines under the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) and witnesses a steady flow of devotees throughout the year. The temple receives cash offerings daily from pilgrims, which are counted and accounted for as part of routine administrative procedures.

While the specifications and cost of the donated machine were not disclosed, officials noted that banks generally provide mid-range, bank-grade cash counting machines for institutional use. Such machines are designed for high-volume counting and typically include features such as fake-note detection and batch counting. Similar machines are usually priced in the range of ₹25,000 to ₹40,000 , according to market estimates.

Donations of equipment by banks and public sector undertakings to major temples are not uncommon, particularly at shrines that handle large volumes of offerings. Such contributions are often made as part of corporate social responsibility initiatives or long-standing institutional associations.

TTD is the official custodian of the Sri Venkateswara temple at Tirumala and its associated shrines, including the Sri Padmavati Ammavaru temple at Tiruchanoor. The trust manages temple administration, pilgrim services, and financial operations across these institutions.

Temple officials said the newly received machine would help streamline cash handling and improve operational efficiency during peak pilgrimage periods.
