Cabinet sub-committee reviews Andhra Pradesh district reorganization at secretariat

A detailed review on the proposed reorganization of districts in Andhra Pradesh was conducted at the State Secretariat on Wednesday under the supervision of the Cabinet Sub-Committee constituted by the government. The meeting was attended by Ministers Dr. P. Narayana, Anagani Satya, R. Ramanaidu, Nadendla Manohar, and Satyakumar Yadav.

The meeting was convened to examine administrative, demographic, and infrastructural aspects related to the present district structure. Discussions were held with senior officials in accordance with the directions issued by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu during his review meeting held a day earlier.

The 26-district framework, which was implemented in 2022 during the previous YSR Congress government, was reviewed for its administrative feasibility and impact on governance. It was noted that several issues related to overlapping boundaries, uneven population distribution, and infrastructure limitations have been identified during preliminary assessments. The Cabinet Sub-Committee has been assigned the responsibility of addressing these gaps and presenting suitable recommendations to the Chief Minister.

Officials were instructed to compile detailed data on administrative operations, resource allocation, and the accessibility of essential services across all districts. Emphasis was placed on ensuring that any proposed realignment would promote administrative efficiency and equitable development. The possibility of rationalizing district boundaries or merging certain smaller units was discussed, though no decisions were finalized during the meeting.

The committee also examined the modalities for obtaining feedback from local bodies and the public before submitting its final report. It was indicated that a structured consultation process would be designed to ensure that the views of district administrations and stakeholders are adequately reflected in the recommendations.

Officers from the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration (CCLA) and the General Administration Department (GAD) were directed to prepare analytical reports and reorganization options based on demographic, economic, and geographical data. The compiled information will be placed before the Chief Minister for further review.

According to official sources, the reorganization exercise is being undertaken to improve governance, strengthen administrative systems, and ensure balanced regional growth. The government is reportedly focused on achieving greater efficiency and accountability within district administrations through a well-calibrated restructuring process.

The Cabinet Sub-Committee is expected to meet again after the completion of data compilation and internal consultations. Its final report will be submitted to the Chief Minister for consideration before being placed before the Cabinet for approval.
