Cabinet approves ₹13,037-Crore Jaipur Metro Phase-2 Corridor

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday cleared the second phase of the Jaipur Metro project, approving a 41-kilometre North–South corridor aimed at strengthening urban connectivity in Jaipur.

Chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Cabinet sanctioned the project at an estimated cost of ₹13,037.66 crore. The corridor will run from Prahladpura to Todi Mod and include 36 stations, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said at a media briefing.

The project will be executed by Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited (RMRCL), a 50:50 joint venture between the Centre and the Rajasthan government.

According to an official statement, the new corridor is designed to link key residential, industrial and institutional hubs across the city. These include Sitapura Industrial Area, VKIA, Jaipur Airport, Tonk Road, SMS Hospital and Stadium, Ambabari and Vidhyadhar Nagar. Underground sections are planned in the airport area to address space constraints and ensure smoother operations.

The Phase-2 line will be integrated with the existing operational Phase-1 network through interchanges and feeder services, enabling seamless travel across the metro system. Authorities said the expansion is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion, improve travel times and enhance last-mile connectivity.

The project forms part of the government’s broader push to expand sustainable urban transport infrastructure in rapidly growing cities, with a focus on reducing dependence on road-based transit and improving commuter efficiency.
